Mrs. Cullum Music K-1I am Myra Cullum. I teach Kindergarten Music at Santa Fe Christian Schools, and I lead Chapel for the First Graders and Kindergarteners each Friday. I have taught for over 16 years, teaching elementary music and children’s choral music in public and private schools and in churches or on the missionary field from coast to coast in America as well as in Kenya, Thailand, and Romania. In that time, God has developed in me talent and skill for teaching the fundamentals of music and choral singing with a specific passion. The passion God has kindled in my heart is to teach children to use their voices and bodies in praise and worship and to use music to memorize scripture and plant God’s Word deep in the hearts of young people. Music is an effective tool for accomplishing what Paul encouraged the Colossians to do in Col. 3:16 "Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord." Jesus said that the Greatest Commandment is to love God with all of our heart, soul, mind, and strength. I feel great joy leading children in worship where they can do just that! When we sing or play instruments to the Most High, we engage the intellect and mind in reading the music or playing our part, we share a part of our heart and soul as we produce the music from deep in our spirit, and we involve our strength as we physically play or sing - sometimes requiring great stamina and much practice. I am so thankful that SFC is committed to developing the Christian leaders of tomorrow and serving the students with a solid elementary music education. I feel privileged to be a part of what God is doing at SFC.
