Mrs. Nielsen Fifth Grade Teacher
It is truly a privilege and blessing to be part of the fifth grade team. As a teacher, I am given the incredible responsibility of shaping the minds and hearts of our country’s future. Fifth graders are at a transitional place in their lives both academically and socially—a place where they are developing more independence, responsibility, and accountability. It is my goal that my fifth graders would grow in all of these areas as well as grow spiritually as they develop a deeper love and understanding of our Lord Jesus Christ.
As I teach History and Science, I am excited to teach from a biblical world view, encouraging my students to seek biblical truth and set their minds on “whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable” as well as “excellent or praiseworthy.” (Phil. 4:8). I want to challenge my students to ask what Science teaches us about God and His character as well as how it teaches us that God really does exist. Fifth grade History allows fifth graders to see God’s hand in the formation of our country.
I spent my first year here teaching Performing Arts, which are near and dear to my heart. In fact, I believe strongly that the Performing Arts should be incorporated across the curriculum as it allows students to learn using a variety of modalities that sometimes aren’t part of the regular classroom setting. You will often find students in my classroom, acting, chanting, and singing.
I have been teaching for 17 years, the first 15 of which were spent in the public schools. I also have two children here at Santa Fe Christian. I praise God for leading me to this amazing school where I can teach in a refreshing environment that encourages students to grow academically and socially, and, most importantly, spiritually.
