Mrs. Swenson     Kindergarten Teacher

Kindergarten greetings!

What a joy and a privilege it is for me to introduce kindergarteners and their families to the first formal year of education at Santa Fe Christian. This is a critical time for children as they begin to build a foundation for the many years of school to follow. It is very important for students to experience this year in a safe and challenging way to encourage their success at school.

The most significant thread that is woven through our school year is that God, as the creator of all things, is the source of all true knowledge, wisdom and power and that we, as His children, are the focus of His divine love and care. Following the example of Jesus, we obey God and love others because He is the Lord of all. It is a priority to teach the children that God is involved in every subject area so they will begin to see the world around them from a Biblical perspective.

In kindergarten we focus on developing the whole child. There are many creative opportunities in each area of the curriculum.

     • Our reading program has a strong phonics base and some whole language activities.
•The math program uses many hands-on activities to build a conceptual framework for math understanding.
•Bible instruction is character based and includes Bible stories to illustrate each character trait while Bible verse memorization is a weekly part of our program.
•Science and social studies are taught in relationship to seasons and events during the calendar year.
•Projects and explorative activities enhance the lessons as the year progresses as well as utilizing information from curriculum.
     • Specialists teach our computer and performing arts.

Our class verse reflects our creators' love for kindergarteners, the lambs in His pasture. Psalm 100:3 Know that the Lord is God. It is He who made us, and we are His, we are His people, the sheep of His pasture.

I consider it a blessing to be a part of Santa Fe Christian. Since coming to Santa Fe in 1997, I have taught in various full and part-time positions. My hobbies include snow skiing, gardening, and reading.
