Welcome to the SFC Band Program !

Mission Statement

To develop our musical skills by following:  the Lord, His example and His word.

·          To reflect God’s character of Order and Excellence.

·          To attract others to the Lord by our excellence and good deeds.

·          To fulfill our responsibility of developing the gifts and talents that the Lord has given us to their highest level for His glory.

Because:

Colossians 3:23 tells us, “What ever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for men, since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as you reward.”

Proverbs 22:29 tell us, “Do you see a man skilled in his work?  He will serve before kings; he will not serve before obscure men.”

Matthew 5:14-16 tells us, “You are the light of the world.  A city on a hill cannot be hidden.  Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl.  Instead they put in on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house.  In the same way, let your light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and praise your father in heaven.

Students develop music skills through a progressive curriculum.  Students master: the elements of tone development; music reading which includes rhythm and scales;  ensemble skills by performing in the various band; a well rounded variety of styles from Classical to Jazz to Pop.

This year band students, from the 4th to the 12th grade, have been given the ‘SmartMusic’ computer program for their home computers.  The SmartMusic program is correlated to the music books we use.  It is an amazing play along tool that provides: instant feedback of accuracy; musical accompaniments of Orchestra, Jazz Band, Rock Band or simple piano; the ability to record oneself playing along to the accompaniments and saving the performance as an mp3 file for self analysis or sending it by email to the instructor.  You can learn more about it at Smartmusic.com.

The Eagle Band has won the prestigious BIOLA Band competition 2 years in a row.  In 1999 they won an audition to perform in an international music competition in Sydney, Australia.  In 2005 the Eagle Band along with other ACSI musicians went to the Bahamas to be the first group from the USA to perform in the Bahamian Independence Day Celebration.

Mr. Hall has been teaching at SFC since 1991.  He has played various instruments professionally in groups ranging from Broadway Show orchestras to worship bands to rock bands.  He received his BA in music education from San Diego State University and his MM in conducting from Southern Oregon University.
