I have known since high school that I wanted to be a teacher. I have always enjoyed helping students understand not only how to solve problems but also helping them to visualize the mathematics and know why something works. Besides the degrees listed below I also worked for a year on a Ph. D. in mathematics education. This was an eye opening experience for me as I got to read and watch how other countries such as Singapore and Japan teach mathematics for understanding. I hope to create a similar atmosphere in all my math classes so that students feel that they are learning both the basic skills and being able to visualize and explain why those skills work.
