Language Arts 7
This course focuses on grammar and writing. In order to equip students for high school English, they will complete daily grammar, spelling and vocabulary exercises, as well as journal writing. Grammar studies include parts of speech, parts of the sentence, phrases, and clauses using a program called Caught’ya in conjunction with the GUM book (Grammar, Usage, Mechanics). Writing instruction contains persuasive, narrative, and expository writing techniques. This will include learning and applying the steps to writing a research paper. Writing assessment will be done using the six traits of good writing (ideas, organization, voice, word choice, sentence fluency, and conventions) and in the next few weeks we will be looking into each trait in great detail. Currently, I am reviewing the Writing Process with the students and from there the students will be writing a memoir, which will be their first big writing paper of the semester.
