Welcome!! Chemistry at SFC is offered either in the 11th or 10th grade. It is a required course and is usually taken after a student has taken Biology. Honors Chemistry is offered to those who have aptitude in Science and Math and can cover the material at a quicker pace and more in depth. The Textbook we use in Honors is a college text and the homework problems are challenging. Content goes over the structure of matter, chemical reactions, thermochemistry, states of matter, types of chemical bonds, environmental chemistry, acid-base, precipitation, oxidation/reduction reactions, and some organic chemistry. Labs are an intergral part of the course. We work in the lab every other week and the students are responsible to write lab papers describing their lab work. My degree in 1973 was in Meterology and Oceanography. I spent 20 years at sea as an officer in the Merchant Marine. For 15 years I was the V.P. of a small manufacturing company in San Diego. My work involved the practical application of some of the Chemistry and Physics I studied over the years. More than any of my past work, I find teaching the most rewarding by far.I thank God for the opportunity to serve our young men and women in finding their paths in the service of our Lord.
