Welcome to the Art Room!

God blessed me when He orchestrated my being hired to teach art at SFC!  It is a privilege to work with such talented students, who because of their attitude and effort, produce amazing works of art.  2008-2009 will be another great year in the art room!  The over-arching question that drives the art program is :  What is art?  We will explore this question as students work with a variety of media, develop their skills and creative self-expression, and learn about artists who have contributed to our world.  In the spring, there will be Senior Artist Receptions, an Arts Night for the Art I and Advanced Art students to share how they have used God's gift of creativity with their family and friends as well as our 4th Annual Chalk Festival.

Academic and Teaching Background: I graduated from Chapman University with a B.A. in Art and was a Graduate Assistant in the Art Department while I worked on my  California Teaching Credential through Chapman.  I was hired to develop an art program for the 4th through 6th grades at an elementary school in Placentia Unified School District. I earned a M.S. in Curriculum Development from CSUF. After teaching for six years, I spent several years in the fitness industry, teaching classes, training instructors, and managing a territory. God called me back to teaching at SFC in 1993. What an exciting experience it has been to be a part of the SFC Family!

SFC is graduating talented artists who have been accepted into art programs at UCLA, Cal Poly SLO, USC, and Otis Art Institute. Other students have chosen to continue their art-related studies at Christian colleges; they are experiencing success as they are being challenged with rigorous programs at Biola and APU. The world needs excellent artists who are grounded in their faith to impact the arts and entertainment industry.

Blessings....Barbara Farrington

EXTRA HELP: The art room is open after school until 3:15 M-Th.  Arrangements can be made in advance with me if a student needs to work later than 3:15pm.
