COMMUNITY SERVICE
GUIDELINES
Purpose: At Santa Fe Christian Schools, our philosophy of community service is based on Mark 10:45, which says “for even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.” In order to promote a life-long commitment to serving others, SFC requires a student to give of their time and talents for the benefit of others. Where there is a need, we must feel the responsibility to fill that need with a joyful, loving attitude.
Requirements: All service projects must meet the following minimum hours of missions/service each year. The student must meet the requirements in order to graduate or to return to SFC the next school year. To report hours served, the student will turn in a Missions/Service Community Service form signed by the adult supervisor or agency. These forms may be picked up in the Upper School Office.
Requirements by grade:
- 9th Grade 10 hours (Due on Friday, May 12)
- 10th Grade 15 hours (Due on Friday, May 12)
- 11th Grade 30 hours (Due on Friday, May 12)
- 12th Grade 30 hours (Due on Friday, May 12)
Students may earn their mission/service hours during the summer immediately preceding the school year. (Remember, all service projects must be pre-approved.) Seniors must fulfill their community service requirement prior to graduation.
The following activities DO NOT COUNT for community service hours:
- Any service done on SFC campus, i.e., clean-up, helping teachers, etc.
- Any service for which a student is paid
- SFC MS Community Service Days
